What is GPG (Grains Per Gallon)?
GPG is a unit used to measure water hardness. One grain per gallon (GPG) is equal to about 17.1 milligrams of dissolved minerals per liter. Water is considered “hard” if it has more than 7 GPG.
What is Water Hardness?
Water hardness refers to the amount of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium, in your water. The more minerals present, the “harder” the water.
Why is a Water Softener Important?
A water softener helps by removing these minerals through a process called ion exchange. This is important because hard water can:
***Cause scale buildup in pipes, appliances, and fixtures, reducing their lifespan.
***Decrease soap efficiency, making it harder to clean dishes, clothes, and yourself.
***Leave spots and film on surfaces and skin, leading to dryness and irritation.
A water softener improves water quality, extends the life of plumbing systems, and makes daily tasks more efficient.
